When your folks reside in a nursing home for aged, it’s unavoidable to think if they are receiving the best elderly care.  It’s natural to feel this way since we want the quality care for our parents. Evaluating the kind of nursing home facility is not enough. What if mom did not remind to take her medicine or what if dad is having trouble to sleep at night and no one’s there to calm him. The features of elderly residential homes the day you first take your elder parents provide an initial set to assess how things should be adjacent to what you actually observe.

  • Visit your parents as frequent as possible. This is a good way of ensuring the quality of the facility and showing deep care to your parents. If you can’t visit, call the nursing station to see what your elders are doing. The staff may sense that you are advocating for your parents and it will lead to have a quality elderly nursing service you parent could receive.
  • Foster healthy relationship with nurse and hospice caregivers. You may do this by thanking them for their job knowing the fact that their job is not easy. Show your recognition by giving rewards. It may be a simple gift or an ornamental plant or a box of candy and chocolates.
  • Improve the relationship with other elderly resident’s family members. They can be an extra eyes and ears in the facility. Informing each other would be a good idea.
  • Pay attention to the complaints of your aged parent. Never neglect if your parents is complaining about something.
  • Verify your elder’s complaints and objections. Try to confirm if your complaining parent is just trying to get an attention or wants to regain his losses.  Understand if this may happened and do not reprimand your elderly aging parent.
  • Be a good collaborator of staffs and administrators. Calmly approach them when you want discussions for your concerns.
  • Be cooperative with the Comprehensive Assessment and make sure that it is done within the time being requested.

These helpful guidelines would help you ensure the quality care for your elder.  These also help you feel confident and sleep with peaceful mind. Have a good night sleep!
